Understanding the New York Statute of Limitations for Sexual Abuse

The New York Child Victims Act, signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo on February 14, 2019, permits civil claims for sexual abuse injuries against both the perpetrator and the institution until the victim is 55. The Act also offers a "look-back window," providing an opportunity for previously barred claims to be filed within a specific period.

The “Look-Back Window” Explained

The "look-back window" is a period with no statute of limitations for children who are sex abuse victims in New York. Starting from August 14, 2019, you can file a previously time-barred claim until January 14, 2021.
